S.F. Defender Invests in High-Risk Kids
SAN FRANCISCO - Kids in tough, poor neighborhoods often feel trapped and isolated - strong motivation to join a gang or turn to crime. But when 12-year-old Sharhonda Johnson sits down at her computer, she uses e-mail to talk to friends, just as the more privileged girls her age do, and she has the world - or at least the World Wide Web - at her fingertips.

This is the second of three stories exploring crime prevention efforts in the troubled Bayview/Hunters Point neighborhood by San Francisco's elected legal officers.
