Targeting Sex-Identity Prejudice

The right to work and support oneself and one's family: what could be more basic? Most of us take that right for granted, but transgender people, whose gender identity is different from their birth sex, have engaged in a double struggle. First, they battle with workplace discrimination and, second, with courts and enforcement agencies such as California's Department of Fair Employment and Housing that have, until recently, failed to comprehend that such discrimination is illegal under laws prohibiting sex discrimination.
