Refusal to Follow Law Often Results In Chastisement

SAN FRANCISCO - In the late 1970s and early 1980s, Michigan judicial discipline officials faced a difficult problem. A Detroit judge disagreed with the city's prostitution ordinance and started summarily dismissing charges filed by city prosecutors. Despite orders from the presiding judge and the Michigan Court of Appeals, Judge William C. Hague persisted in dismissing prostitution cases.
