SAN FRANCISCO - Another precedent established by the Rose Bird court was toppled Monday, as the California Supreme Court ruled that trial judges are no longer obligated to tell jurors that they have the option of convicting a defendant of a related crime that is less serious than the one charged by the prosecution.
