San Francisco neutral Matthew Geyer likes writing novels, arbitration rulings

Sometimes it takes brilliant insight and hard bargaining to move a dispute resolution session off the dime. At other times, Matthew J. Geyer had to notice that ergonomic chairs needed to be adjusted so a settlement could be reached.

SAN FRANCISCO - New ergonomic chairs in an American Arbitration Association conference room here were designed to alleviate back pain, said arbitrator and mediator Matthew J. Geyer.


"Unfortunately, they shipped the chairs all tilted forward, and nobody noticed that, and everybody was sitting uncomfortably and nothing was getting done," said Geyer of a recent session in the room.
