New law boosts defendants' chance of new trial if expert recants

Overturning a controversial state Supreme Court decision, a new law allows criminal defendants to seek a writ of habeas corpus if partly convicted on an expert witness' testimony that is later recanted or undermined.

Criminal defendants who have been out of luck for habeas corpus relief even if expert witnesses recant their testimony will get another chance under a new law that overturns a controversial state Supreme Court decision.
