State and U.S. justices take up confrontation clause

In a move legal observers said showed unusual timing, the state Supreme Court could soon decide whether a criminal defendant has the right to confront the individual scientific experts who generate forensic evidence.

In a move legal observers said shows interesting timing, the state Supreme Court could soon decide whether a criminal defendant has the right to confront the individual scientific experts who generate forensic evidence.


The state's justices are poised to answer that question even as the nation's high court prepares to issue a decision on a similar issue. Williams v. Illinois, 10-8505.
