Judge finds Toyota improperly handled crash evidence

In what could be a significant boost for plaintiffs, a federal judge has indicated he will issue sanctions against Toyota for alleged evidence tampering related to a fatal 2010 crash blamed on sudden unintended acceleration.

SANTA ANA - "Don't!" an auto repair shop owner told Toyota technicians as they began to pull pieces out of a wrecked Camry involved in a fatal crash allegedly caused by sudden unintended acceleration. That one word - recounted in a federal court ruling this week - helped persuade a judge to impose sanctions against Toyota Motor Corp. for alleged evidence tampering.
