ACLU Sues Over State's DNA Testing

The complaint filed in San Francisco alleges the collection of DNA samples from arrestees is an unlawful search.

SAN FRANCISCO - Of the several hundred thousand people arrested on suspicion of a felony in California each year, roughly one-third are never convicted of a crime. Some are never charged. Others see their charges dismissed, and still more are acquitted at trial.

Yet under California law, authorities can swipe all of their cheeks and store their DNA upon felony arrest.
