Witness testimony law signed

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Monday that requires prosecutors to use witness testimony or physical evidence to bolster the accounts of jailhouse informants.

Gov. Jerry Brown signed a bill Monday that would prevent a jury or judge from convicting a defendant solely on the basis of uncorroborated testimony from a jailhouse informant. Introduced by Sen. Mark Leno, D-San Francisco, Senate Bill 687 aims to address the problem of wrongful convictions due to testimony from in-custody informants.
