Jury hits Microsoft with $70 million verdict in Alcatel-Lucent case

A San Diego federal jury on Friday awarded Alcatel-Lucent S.A. $70 million in damages because Microsoft Corp. infringed a calendar feature in the popular Outlook e-mail program.

A San Diego federal jury on Friday awarded Alcatel-Lucent S.A. $70 million because Microsoft Corp. infringed a calendar feature in its popular Outlook email program.


The case represented one of the first tests of recent Federal Circuit rulings designed to push for a more stringent economic analysis to justify high patent damage awards.
