Court Rules on Foreign Subsidiaries

The U.S. Supreme Court unanimously held Monday that state courts have no jurisdiction over foreign subsidiaries of an American companies when those subsidiaries are not directly connected to, or active in, the state.

The ruling blocks a lawsuit brought by the North Carolina parents of teenagers killed in a bus accident in France against an American company's foreign subsidiaries that allegedly made the tires partially responsible for the crash.
