In antitrust trial, government argues merger is harming competition

In opening statements of a bench trial questioning the merger of two rivals in the online retail review business, government attorneys argued the acquisition harms competition in violation of antitrust laws.

SAN FRANCISCO - Government attorneys told a judge Monday that a 2012 merger between rivals in the online retail review business harmed competition in violation of U.S. antitrust law and should be partly undone, even though the government failed to block the tie-up in the first place.
