Former Sheriff Cleared in Deputy's Suit

Whether or not Mike Carona's demotion of his lieutenant was political sour grapes, a federal judge decided Thursday that the convicted ex-Orange County sheriff did not violate the man's First Amendment rights.

LOS ANGELES - A U.S. judge ruled Thursday that then-Orange County Sheriff Mike Carona did not violate a lieutenant's First Amendment rights by demoting him, regardless of whether he was motivated by political sour grapes.
