Relief for some companies in paying final wages

Companies may not have to pay waiting-time penalities if they reasonably believed a union contract waived certain types of final pay, an appellate court rules

Companies do not have to pay California's steep waiting-time penalties if they "reasonably believed" a union contract waived workers' rights to certain pay when their employment ends, the 2nd District Court of Appeal found Thursday.
