Panel Eyes Early Civil Rights Cases
As the California Supreme Court struggles with a case pitting gay rights against the will of voters, an academic program this week will delve into the court's earliest civil rights struggles of the mid-1800s. At least 200 people are expected to attend Thursday's colloquium, "Civil and Uncivil Constitutional Rights in California: The Early Legal History," sponsored by the California Supreme Court Historical Society and the Bar Association of San Francisco.
