High Court Ruling Violates Principles of Federalism

The U.S. Supreme Court's majority recount opinion constitutes a dark hour in our nation's great history. Bush v. Gore, 00-949 (Dec. 12, 2000). The right wing of the court, violating its own often-stated allegiance to federalism, reached out to reverse a state supreme court's decision that did nothing more than interpret state elections laws. This gross departure from principles and precedent demonstrates that the majority opinion was calculated to reach a desired result.
