California attorney must wait for vote to become patent office chief

A vote to confirm longtime Silicon Valley lawyer Michelle K. Lee as the new permanent director of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will not happen until the new Republican-led Congress is sworn in next year.

The nearly two-year wait for a permanent director to lead the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office will extend at least another month, after an influential Republican senator nixed any notions Wednesday that the outgoing Democrat-led Senate would vote on Silicon Valley lawyer Michelle K. Lee.
