State's bar passage rate plummets, tracking national trend

Only 61 percent of first-time test-takers passed the California exam this year, compared to almost 68 percent a year ago. And it was the first time in a decade the ABA graduates' pass rate fell been below 70 percent.

The pass rate on the July bar exam tumbled in California, matching unexpected drops in many other states around the country.


Only 61 percent of first-time test-takers passed the California exam this year, compared to almost 68 percent a year ago. The pass rate for all takers, including repeaters, fell to 48.6 percent from 55.8 percent in 2013.
