WASHINGTON - A fractured U.S. Supreme Court held Wednesday that federal law preempts regulations imposed by some states that bar federal courts from hearing certain class action claims.
The ruling, on a 5-4 vote in which the justices were not divided along their usual ideological lines, was a win for plaintiffs' attorneys.
