OAKLAND - Officials announced planning is underway to convert the eastbound descent of the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge from parking lots into a 50-acre park. According to The Associated Press, the 1.5-mile strip with scattered buildings and maintenance yards along the bridge will be transformed into green space by 2013 to precede the opening of the new eastern span of the bridge. Comments at a recent public meeting included suggestions for soccer fields, a dog run, a movie theater, a Ferris wheel and a transportation museum.
