The Missing Chapter: Asian Americans and Crime

Assistant Federal Public Defender Harvey Gee asks why criminal law literature has consistently overlooked the role of Asian Americans in the justice system.

Asian Americans are often overlooked in criminal law literature despite our contribution to legal history and contemporary conversations about crime policy. Few writings have even discussed Asian American or Asian offenders. I suggest that it is time for more social and legal inquiries about Asian Americans in the administration of justice. By doing so, such efforts could broaden our understanding of the legitimacy of criminal law and procedure.
