Whistleblowing Teachers Get Protection

A 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals decision is expected to clear an easier path for special education teachers to wage retaliation claims if they lose their jobs after speaking out on behalf of students.

RIVERSIDE - Riverside County's special education curriculum has been under the microscope for the last couple of years, thanks in part to teacher Susan Barker. She sounded the alarm bells in 2005 by filing a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education alleging that the county's disabled students were not getting the education they were entitled to by law.
