Private Lawyer to Argue on Feds' Behalf

The U.S. Supreme Court handpicked a lawyer to defend an appellate ruling that is under review, just the 43rd time in its history it's reached out for an advocate to ensure a case is heard via the adversarial process.

WASHINGTON - A Pennsylvania woman convicted on chemical-weapons charges will fight today at the U.S. Supreme Court for the right to challenge the federal law she was charged under, even though her nominal litigation opponent in the case - the U.S. government - agrees with her.
