In his native Cuba, George Gascón's uncle was convicted in a 5-minute trial.


Fidel Castro's Communist government deemed the labor leader at a local beer brewery a counterrevolutionary and sent him to prison. The experience left an indelible impression on Gascón, the former San Francisco police chief who was appointed district attorney this week.
