DA Criticizes Prisoner Transfer Plan

Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley is criticizing Gov. Jerry Brown's proposal to transfer thousands of state prisoners to county jails to save money.


Los Angeles County District Attorney Steve Cooley on Friday sharply criticized the governor's proposal to transfer thousands of state prisoners to county jails, saying the plan would "wreak havoc" on the criminal justice system and threaten public safety.


As a cost-saving move, Gov. Jerry Brown has proposed transferring to counties 40,000 prisoners convicted of low-level felonies.
