Jail Inmates Get Boost from Circuit Decision

The 9th Circuit ruled Monday that sheriffs in two Northern California counties may have been on thin legal ice when they banned from jail inmates a publication with lawyer ads.

Lawyers and bail bond agents seeking business from jail inmates got a boost Monday from the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.


A circuit panel voted 2-1 that two Northern California sheriffs who barred distribution to county inmates of a publication featuring lawyer and bail bond advertisements will have to justify their ban in court.
