SAN FRANCISCO - In November 2005, a group of young black men in suits and bowties entered two West Oakland liquor stores and smashed up the alcohol inventory with baseball bats.
According to court records, one of the men said to a store owner that it was unconscionable to sell alcohol in a poor, black neighborhood - especially for a Muslim.
