Cupertino man receives 15-month sentence for illegal sale

A Cupertino resident recently received a 15-month prison sentence for selling to China an amplifier used in communications equipment that U.S. prosecutors believe could have threatened national security.

A San Jose federal judge has sentenced a Cupertino resident to 15 months in prison for selling a microwave amplifier sometimes used in electronic warfare to a Chinese company without an export license. Prosecutors believed the sale could have threatened national security.


An attorney for the defendant, Fu-Tain Lu, said the defense team considers the sentence, handed down Monday, a win.
