Musicians lawyer up over insurance "exclusion"

An insurance policy clause known as the "entertainment industry exclusion" is causing some musicians and other showbiz types to scratch their heads and call out their lawyers when their claims are denied.

When Tool got sued for copyright infringement by the artist who originated the rock band's signature wrench logo, the band members fully expected insurance to kick in for the $300,000 in legal fees.


Instead, they got an ugly surprise: Their insurers said they had no duty to defend Tool for any claims related to entertainment.
