Apple loses patent ruling in England against Samsung

Apple Inc. may have prevailed in its San Jose patent trial against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., but an English appeals court ruled that three Samsung Galaxy models do not infringe on the iPad.

Apple Inc. may have prevailed in its San Jose patent trial against Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., but it suffered a setback Thursday in The Court of Appeal of England, which upheld a judge's ruling that three Samsung Galaxy models do not infringe on the iPad. As punishment, the Cupertino-based consumer technology giant has to run ads on its website, and in several British periodicals, stating that the Galaxy is not a copycat.
