State Judicial Council pays when judges face lawsuits

A well-funded arm of the state Judicial Council is picking up the tab for outside counsel to defend judges, as it does for all litigation arising out of claims against the state judiciary.

Superior Court judges in Contra Costa County who are shielded by legislative immunity from a retaliation lawsuit by a commissioner they fired also are sheltered from having to pay for their own defense.


Instead, a well-funded arm of the state Judicial Council is picking up the tab for outside counsel to defend the judges - as it does for all litigation arising out of claims against the state judiciary....
