Summer associate reseach program concludes

Summer associates from 17 major law firms celebrated the completion of their pro bono legal research projects last month with a reception at Jones Day’s downtown office. The Maxwell E. Greenberg Summer Associate Research Program, now in its 14th year, convenes summer associates to write research memoranda on civil rights questions, discrimination, the First Amendment and other issues for the program’s sponsoring organization, the nonprofit Anti-Defamation League. “We need a lot more understanding in the world,” the program’s guest speaker, U.S. District Judge Dolly M. Gee, told the group. The first Chinese-American woman to be a federal judge, Gee spoke about her upbringing as the daughter of immigrants and lauded the law students for their civic engagement. “Tell me and I’ll forget,” she said, paraphrasing a Chinese proverb. “Show me and I may remember. Involve me and I’ll understand.” —Ben Adlin
