Sierra Pacific to pay largest wildfire damages settlement ever

In the largest settlement ever in a wildfire damages case, the federal government will receive $122 million in cash and land from logging giant Sierra Pacific Industries and others it accused of negligently starting a major forest fire.

In the largest settlement ever in a wildfire case, the federal government will receive $122 million in cash and land from logging giant Sierra Pacific Industries and others it accused of negligently starting a fire that burned 46,000 acres in the Plumas and Lassen National Forests, the U.S. attorney's office in Sacramento announced Tuesday.
