Current thinking in law firm BYOD practice is outdated
However well-meaning demands to use our own personal devices may be, law firms and attorneys are required by strict ethical standards to protect the confidentiality of our client's information and secrets. By Joseph M. Burton




Steve Jobs said on Sept. 24, 2014, "There's an old Wayne Gretzky quote that I love. I skate to where the puck is going to be, not to where it has been. And we've always tried to do that at Apple."
I suggest that the current "bring your own device" (BYOD) practice is where the law firm technology puck has been. Law firms can and should, however, be skating to a different place.
