Taunting Turnabout

Childhood hurt can leave indelible impressions. In Frank Kaplan's case, it became a cause. Kaplan, 54, a partner in the Los Angeles firm of Alschuler Grossman Stein & Kahan, grew up in Charleston, W.Va., not the Charleston, W.Va., of today but the small town of the 1950s when fountains were segregated, blacks had their own school and Kaplan, who is Jewish, faced prejudice daily.
