Insurance rate bill clears Senate committee

Legislation that would give California's health insurance regulators broad new powers to approve or reject premium increases or reductions cleared a key hurdle in the state Senate on Thursday.

Legislation that would give California's health insurance regulators broad new powers to approve or reject premium increases or reductions cleared a key hurdle in the state Senate on Thursday.


Assembly Bill 52, which is opposed by the health insurance industry, among others, would also give consumers the ability to challenge rate hikes in court and even win attorney fees.
