MALDEF rededicates office in honor of LA lawyer
The Mexican American Legal Defense and Education Fund rededicated its Washington, D.C. office last month in honor of Los Angeles lawyer Antonia Hernández, former MALDEF president and general counsel. The renamed Antonia Hernández Regional Office and Policy Center is one of several regional offices of the nationwide legal nonprofit organization. Hernandez headed MALDEF for nearly 20 years, advocating civil rights on behalf of the nation's Latino population. She is an expert in philanthropy, civil rights and immigration issues and has been nationally recognized for her commitment to serving underrepresented populations, particularly in Los Angeles. Hernandez served with MALDEF until 2004 when she assumed her current post as president and CEO of California Community Foundation, a major philanthropic organization. — Katie Lucia
