GM faces suit over data recorder on vehicle

The plaintiffs allege that GM, under fire for faulty ignition switches, failed to inform drivers that many of its vehicles were equipped with an event data recorder.

Days before Christmas 2009, and weeks before Ben Hair's 21st birthday, the competitive swimmer and aspiring pharmacist was driving down an isolated Virginia road when he lost control of his Pontiac, ran into a tree and died.


Hair's 2007 Pontiac G5 was one of 2.5 million vehicles recalled in February by General Motors LLC for an ignition switch defect the company had known about for years.
