Why a 'civility oath,' and why now?

Next Friday, a dramatic change will occur to the attorney oath all entering lawyers will be required to take at the time of their admission to the California State Bar. Under that revision to the oath, all newly admitted attorneys will promise to "strive to conduct myself at all times with dignity, courtesy and integrity." So why is this an important positive change and why is it being done now?
