Brown boosts judicial branch funding, but service cutbacks remain likely

Gov. Jerry Brown Tuesday proposed giving the judicial branch $160 more than last year, up from his proposal of $105 million in January. But courts contend the branch needs no less than $266 million just to avoid further cuts.

SACRAMENTO - In his revised budget proposal Tuesday, Gov. Jerry Brown offered the state judiciary an additional $160 million for the 2014-15 fiscal year - $55 million more than he offered in January but far short of what the court says it needs to stave off more cutbacks.
