Many state courts would not have room for new judges

Judges in some California courts may soon have no courtrooms to call home. With several bench spots empty, Sacramento and San Diego counties face this possibility if anyone gets appointed.

Judge Lance A. Ito is arguably the most famous sitting judge in the world. But today he sits in an empty courtroom with no staff reviewing writs, or he fills in for judges who are sick or vacationing.
