On Nov. 8, California voters approved Proposition 51, authorizing the issuance of $9 billion in bonds for educational facility funding. Prior to the election, some sources had the measure polling at less than 50 percent. However, Prop. 51 passed with approximately 54 percent of the statewide vote, and became effective Nov. 9.
