Varietal Voting

To most voters, the recent 7-2 U.S. Supreme Court decision invalidating California's blanket primary, California Democratic Party v. Jones, 2000 Daily Journal D.A.R. 6777 (June 26, 2000), is just another instance of the judicial system overriding "the will of the people." Ironically, these same voters approved a primary election mechanism under which nonparty members can overturn the will of party members.
