Camp Controversy

One of Johnny Carson's "Tonight Show" routines had him donning a turban and reading minds as "Carmac the Magnificent." A five-justice majority of the U.S. Supreme Court last week refused to indulge in a Carmac-like act. In Boy Scouts of America v. Dale, the court declined to second-guess Scout leadership as to what the organization really believes about homosexuality. The court instead accepted the Boy Scout s' contention, backed by significant documentation, that the organization has long regarded its doctrines as incompatible with homosexuality.
