Until 1999, there were very few appellate decisions involving civil claims for elder abuse under Welfare and Institutions Code Section 15657. However, since the Supreme Court upheld a claim for elder abuse against a health care provider in Delaney v. Baker, 20 Cal.4th 23 (1999), these claims have gotten the attention of attorneys for consumers and health care providers.
