Miranda Reminds Police Theyre Subject to the Law
By Scott Turow I was delighted by the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to uphold Miranda v. Arizona , 384 U.S. 436 (1966), the 34-year-old constitutional mandate that requires the police to advise anyone arrested of the right to remain silent. Dickerson v. United States , 2000 Daily Journal D.A.R. 6787 (June 26, 2000). Miranda retains an almost sacramental value; it is a vivid emblem of our central ideas about the law.
