FAMILY FEUD

FORUM: By Douglas W. Kmiec Sometimes first impressions are mistaken. Recent headlines reported a Supreme Court decision pitting parent against grandparent as "a victory for the family." On closer look, the headlines were overstated, and the future import of the opinions deeply troubling. In striking down the application of a Washington law that mandated more grandparent visitation than a mother wanted, the Supreme Court may have actually undermined the constitutional protection of parental rights.
