Orders could spark more digital music complaints
Two key orders this week in cases against UMG Recordings Inc. could drive thousands of musicians to file complaints of their own. At issue is whether digital music sales should be considered "records sold" or "masters licensed."

LOS ANGELES - Ongoing efforts by a handful of musicians and producers to recover royalties from digital music sales got a double boost from federal courts in Northern and Southern California.
The decisions are expected to spark many more musicians to join in or file complaints, lawyers say, and major record labels could be facing another brutal blow as they adjust to the digital marketplace.
