High court could decide what to do with 9th Circuit habeas cases

The Supreme Court could announce Tuesday what it will do with four extraordinary habeas cases out of the 9th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals, including one granting a new trial to a man convicted of murder in 1984.

WASHINGTON - More than a quarter-century after local press dubbed Bobby Maxwell the "Skid Row Stabber" and a Los Angeles jury convicted him of crimes connected to a killing spree, the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals voided that verdict and granted him a new trial due to critical faults with a jailhouse informant.
